Prisons, Pipeline maintain perfect start as KCB falter in Tunisia

Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline Monday maintained their perfect start at the ongoing 2022 African Women’s Volleyball Clubs Championship in Kelibia, Tunisia as reigning champions Carthage put the brakes on KCB.

Prisons, the last Kenyan team to win the continental title in 2013, defeated National Alcohol of Ethiopia in straight sets of 25-10,25-17,25-9 to boost their chances of topping pool C after they won 3-0 25-9,25-18,25-20) against Chief Naval of Nigeria in their first match on Sunday.

The local champions wind up their group matches Tuesday against Patriotic Army of Rwanda.

Paul Gitau-coached Pipeline edged out Ghana’s El Wak Wings by 3-0 sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) to make it two wins out of two following their straight sets triumph against Customs of Nigeria in their pool D opener.

Pipeline, who finished fifth last year, play record winners Al Ahly of Egypt who defeated Customs 3-0 in their second fixtures. They won 3-1 sets against Al Wak on Sunday.

Meanwhile, KCB’s efforts to overturn Carthage’s 2-0 sets lead hit a dead end after the defending champions staged a spirited fight back to win 3-1(25-20, 25-17,25-13,25-14) after losing the third set.

The bankers claimed the third set in 25-13 but they fizzled out in the fourth set losing 25-14.
