Queens coach Nyamunyamu confident of title triumph
The Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) leaders Vihiga
Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh believes that the 11 points difference
between them and second-placed Ulinzi Starlets will give them the much needed
cushion and buffer zone in their chase for the title with eight matches to play.
Vihiga cruised to 47 points ahead of everyone else
after walloping eleventh-placed Kayole Starlets 7-0 at the Mumias Sports
Complex yesterday.
Mercyline Anyango was the heroine of the match scoring
a brace as Topister Situma and Eve Chemuta also on the scoreesheet.
And speaking to Citizen
Digital, Nyamunyamuh hailed his charges for the win urging them to continue
fighting hard in the remaining matches.
“I thank my players for a good display,” he said. “I
feel my strikers failed to convert many chances in that match, something we
shall work on going to our next match against Gaspo.
He added: “Our aim is to clinch the title a dream
which we’re inching closer to attaining. We have now opened 11 points gap
between us and Ulinzi who are second and without ruling them out, I don’t see
us failing to harvest a point in the remaining six matches.”
At the same time Nyamunyauh has thanked the
caretaker committee for fulfilling their promise of assisting the league clubs
with finances token amidst the struggles.
“I can confirm that we received Sh600, 000 mid last
week after long complaints. We were told the money channeled was a deficit of
two months (February and March) and it has come at the right time where the
teams were planning to boycott matches due to financial challenges.
It’s my hope that they will clear the remaining
balance soon before the league ends so as to motivate the girls as they
continue to build and nature their talents.”
Elsewhere Ulinzi Starlets increased their points to
36 after beating Nakuru City Queens 2-1 in Ruaraka, while Gaspo maintained
their third position with 30 points after pulling a goalless draw against
Kangemi Ladies at Ligi Ndogo grounds.
Trans Nzoia overtook former champions Thika Queens
in fourth with 31 points after beating Bunyore Starlets 2-0 in Mumboha Stadium,
Bungoma as the defending champions Thika Queens complete the top five with 30
points.
