Quins sign Strathmore trio as Kenya Cup resumes

The second leg of the 2016/2017 Kenya Cup season resumes on Saturday after the Christmas break with six match day eight clashes on the cards.

Leaders Harlequins who are on 29 points travel to fifth-placed Menengai Cream Homeboyz in a match that will be played at Jamhuri Park with the venue hosting the first double header of the year.

Nondescripts and Blak Blad clash earlier in the day’s early kick off.

Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequins have signed the trio of Ginton Adongo(winger), Victor Odera(lock)  and Mclanhan Sikukuu (prop) from Kenya Cup side Strathmore Leos over the January mid-season transfer window.

The Quins announced the new arrivals on Wednesday with Leos Head Coach Mitch Ochola confirming the departures with the transfers believed to have been completed earlier this week.

“Quins approached us and yes they have left and already training with them. Losing these players shows we are still a development side and for sure it has been good four years having those players and we wish them all the best”.

“We have lost many players in the past few months but we are still stronger. It shows our development is good and people should not write us off. I am very confident with our development and we still have many more great players,” added Ocholla.

Two points behind current leaders, KCB will travel to Nakuru Athletic club to play host Top fry Nakuru while third place Kabras Sugar will lock horns with Mwamba at the Railway club grounds.

Sitting eighth with 11 points Strathmore Leos will be at home to fourth side Resolution Impala Saracens who have 20 points in Madaraka, where head coach Mitch ‘Mojo’ Ocholla described Impala Saracens as a well-coached side able to do anything.

Saracens and Leos lastly met on Saturday November 19, 2016 with the Sarries winning 24-12 in what was the third straight defeat for Strathmore.

“The last time we met we had the first half but they carried the second half and won the game but we have since re-organized and know how to approach Saturday’s match”

Strathmore have since bounced back by seeing off Menengai Cream Homeboyz 33-32 and Nondies 43-10 before breaking for the long Christmas break.

“We know who they are and how they play but this is Rugby so we have to so we have to come to the party’’

“We have to sort our set-pieces and keep our running game. Am very excited with the boys. “We’ve had a good break and Saturday’s game will all be how well the boys want it and I trust in them.”

Champions Kabras Sugar play away to Mwamba at the Nairobi Railway Club with Top Fry Nakuru taking on KCB in Nakuru.

Mean Machine welcome Western Bulls to their University of Nairobi backyard.

The match day seven fixtures postponed following the untimely deaths of Nondies center Ogeto Gecheo and Mwamba’s scrum half Victor Wayodi over successive weekends will be played at a later date.
