Rachier halts Gor virtual training

Gor Mahia FC’s virtual training program has been suspended indefinitely after the club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier gave the instruction to all team members via text messages.

Reports suggested Gor’s players were keeping away from training in protest over unpaid dues but a source at the club indicated that the order to halt training had instead originated from the club’s leadership.

Neither Rachier nor the club secretary-general Sam Ochola have responded to calls for clarification.

“Even in virtual training, sometimes you can be two or three which is also a risk. The chairman sent us messages saying we should stop the virtual training until further notice,” the source said.

On Thursday morning, the police arrested AFC Leopards officials while training at Camp Toyoyo Grounds with some players jumping over the perimeter wall to escape arrest.

Earlier this week, Gor’s assistant coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ told Citizen Digital that the club was using an App to set training programmes to all Gor players which could allow the technical bench to monitor their sessions.

However, in a swift about-turn, the club chairman has decided to halt the online training as well. This is even as the FKF Premier League is in jeopardy of being cancelled following the late start and also the current suspension of sporting activities in the country.

Gor have made an underwhelming title defence bid and currently sit seventh on the FKF Premier League with 22 points after 14 matches.

Should the league be cancelled, it will be upon the federation to decide the next steps. Last season, Gor were declared winners despite the league having been halted midway following the outbreak of the Corona Virus pandemic.
