The 2025 edition of the Rhino Charge has received a major boost after Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) announced a Ksh. 3 million sponsorship ahead of the off-road motorsport event set for May 31 in Baringo County.
This marks the fifth consecutive year of partnership between KBL and the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust.
The event is expected to attract spectators, fundraisers, and motorsport fans to the event, known for its blend of adrenaline-fueled off-road motoring and environmental stewardship.
The proceeds will go towards the protection and conservation of Kenya’s critical water towers and mountain ecosystems, under the Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust.
Last year’s Rhino Charge, held in Torosei, Kajiado County, raised a record Ksh. 325.8 million, the highest in the event’s history. The funds have supported electric fencing in areas like Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and Kakamega Forest, as well as the protection of water towers and natural habitats across Kenya.
As part of the 2025 sponsorship, KBL will support three teams: Car No. 25, the Charging Hippos led by paraplegic driver Sam Jethwa; Car No. 19, the all-ladies Bush Babes team; and Car No. 46, the Geco Tribe Chargers, known for their adventurous spirit and commitment to conservation.
KBL will, in the second successive year, sponsor three Rhino Charge teams participating in the motorsport event. They include:
- Car No. 25, also known as the Charging Hippos, led by paraplegic driver Sam Jethwa.
- Car No. 19, the all-ladies Bush Babes team, who have taken part in the charge for more than 15 years.
- Car No. 46, the Geco Tribe Chargers, known for their adventurous spirit and commitment to conservation.
The sponsorship will cover financial support and logistical assistance for the three teams, enabling them to tackle the challenging terrain while amplifying the message of sustainable impact through action.
Speaking on the sponsorship, White Cap Brand Manager Wema Mugofwa affirmed KBL’s dedication to sustainability through motorsport.
“At KBL, we believe collective action is essential for driving lasting change. Our ongoing partnership with the Rhino Charge allows us to support one of Kenya’s most iconic and impactful motorsport events while advancing the urgent cause of environmental conservation. We are proud to once again stand alongside Rhino Ark and the participating teams in this shared mission,”
Driver Mateus Finato of the Geco Tribe Chargers expressed excitement and confidence ahead of the race, highlighting the intense preparations and team spirit.
“Preparing for Rhino Charge is always intense—we’ve been fine-tuning the car, testing in terrain similar to what we expect in Baringo, and getting the whole team mentally and physically ready. It’s not just about speed; it’s about strategy, endurance, and teamwork. We’re excited and feeling confident. Having White Cap Lager back us again is a real boost—it helps take some pressure off and lets us focus fully on the challenge ahead.”
The event will feature 65 teams from Kenya and beyond, including past champions and crowd favorites such as Car No. 5 (Graham McKittrick), Car No. 4 (Mark Glen), Car No. 43 (Peter Kinyua), Moto Moto, Team AK44, BATUK, Team Huzi, and Zambarau Heels on the Wheel.
