Rocking Chisanga relishing every inch of the Polish experience
Less than a month after penning a nine- months deal with Polish club Orkan Sochaczew, Kenya Simbas forward Joshua Chisanga has made quite an impact and was crowned man of the match in their 46 – 8 demolition of RC Arka Gdynia.
The 25 year old has so far scored three tries in the two games he has played and seems to be settling in quite well.
“It’s been great! I can’t complain. The reception has been wonderful, the people of Sochazew are very friendly and they always tell me how happy they are to have me here,” Chisanga, a former Homeboyz player exclusively told Citizen Digital from his base in Poland.
The burly forward played a key role in their last league match and savours his 10 points that added gloss to the hammering of Gdynia.
Chisanga’s first try, according to him, was pure artistry. “It must have been in the 70th min. The 10 chipped the ball through for me, I chased it , it bounced right outside the 22, the opposition was chasing me so I put a grabber through, caught it on the third bounce and finished my sprint with a dive at the the try box.”
The second five- pointer was more conventional.
“The second try happened in the 74th minute, a pass by the number 8 to me, five metres away and they couldn’t stop me,” he said amidst a chuckle, revealing a soul at home with his game and his new environment.
The win propelled his club to second in the group.
The towering forward who tips the scales at 116kg is the only African in the club that has four other foreigners; three Georgians, and a Tongan. Chisanga is still trying to adapt to the Polish culture, admitting that the language has been his biggest challenge.
“The food is amazing, the sausages are to die for, I had a traditional soup called Żurek, a complicated recipe but totally worth the trouble,” he said, admitting that he still misses the Kenyan cuisine.
“ The language is difficult, that’s my main challenge. I can barely communicate with my teammates but I am picking up the basics and they are doing the best they can to speak some English, I think it will all fall into place. ”
Although Chisanga was not named in the Kenya Simbas provisional squad for the African Gold Cup, he is confident his exploits in Poland could place him in good standing for selection.
