Safari Tour: Indiza closer to victory

Dismas Indiza heads into today’s final round of the Safari Tour eighth leg with a narrow one stroke lead after  Tuesday’s round saw him card one over par 72 at Muthaiga Golf Club after bogeying the par three second hole before picking morale-boosting birdies on the fourth and sixth holes.

A dropped shot on the ninth earned him a level par finish on the front nine to protect the three shot overnight advantage unlike on Monday when he shot six under par 65.

On Tuesday Indiza failed to find the green on the short par four 15th hole sending his second shot into the water penalty area from less than 150 yards for an unfortunate double bogey which came immediately after another error of judgement on the 14th hole where he failed to find the green from less than 140 yards to settle for a bogey.

Sigona’s Mohit Mediratta is expected to give Indiza a run for his money after putting in a fine two under par 69 performance to move second on the leaderboard reclaiming the position he had lost briefly on the second day playing an identical two birdies and one bogey on both nines for a three under gross finish.

Today Mohit will be going for his maiden win on the Tour having come close in 2019 at Royal when he finished second.

The most consistent player on this tour has been Dayne Moore who has maintained third spot all through after registering a one over par 72 round yesterday to keep the Zambian in contention on one under par gross on his first attempt on the Tour.

Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi was the day’s biggest casualty, putting in a capricious five over par 76 performance that saw him drop six places down the leaderboard to eighth after registering three bogeys and another double bogey for a six over par 42 on the first nine. A late rally on the second nine made up of two birdies left him seven shots behind the leader.

Chinhoi’s compatriots Nyasha Muyambo and Visitor Mapwanya continued their fine run charging up the leaderboard into the top 10.

The Zimbabwe trio will be hoping to upstage Kenyans and the experienced Moore from Zambia when the action comes to a close today.
