St Anthony
will face Dagoretti High School in the boys’ football final following Friday’s
semis at the ongoing National Secondary School Games in Kakamega County.
St Anthony brought
Shanderema’s memorable campaign to an end with a 1-0 win in the first semi
thanks to Aldrine Kibet’s winner.
Dagoretti
needed penalties to eliminate Agoro Sare, winning the shootout 3-0 after
regular time ended in a 1-1 stalemate and extra time failed to separate them.
The final that
will be staged at the Bukhungu Stadium will be a repeat of Thursday's group
stage contest where Dagoretti defeated St Anthony 1-0.
Agoro Sare and
Shanderema will face off in the third-place playoff in a curtain raiser for the
competition’s ultimate showdown.
Kibet’s
decisive finish against Shanderema was created by the brilliance of Savan
Omondi who sneaked past the home defence with his quick feet to set up his
teammate.
Shanderema had
started the game on high threatening the away team and almost got an early
goal.
However St.
Anthony, battling against the roaring away fans, settled into the game
brilliantly, completing their passes and combining well to find their opener.
Shanderema were
shut out for the majority of the match with Solidarity Boys' defence getting
the job done in immaculate fashion.
At Kakamega
High School grounds, Dagoretti held their cool to advance in the shootout with
Agoro Sare missing all three spot-kicks they took.
Dagoretti had
found the back of the net early in the game before Agoro Sare levelled matters
in the second half to force an extra time.
Neither of
the teams found the back of the net in an intense 30 minute extra time leaving
the shoot out to decide the winner.
