Former AFC Leopards and Shabana head coach Gilbert Selebwa is confident Harambee Stars will perform well at the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, even in the absence of top striker Moses Shumah.
Shumah, who recently joined Zambian Premier League giants Power Dynamos, will miss the tournament that Kenya is co-hosting alongside Uganda and Tanzania from August 2nd to 30th. Despite this, Selebwa believes the team remains strong.
“I don’t think it’s a blow for Harambee Stars. The coach has options to work with, depending on his tactical plan. Many of the young players he called up can fit into what Benni McCarthy wants to achieve,” Selebwa told Citizen Digital.

His move to Zambia, however, rules him out of the tournament, which only features players active in domestic leagues.
Selebwa believes this opens an opportunity for others to step up, particularly players from the National Super League (NSL).
“It’s not only FKF-PL players who should be considered. The NSL has talent. If you look closely, you’ll definitely find players capable of wearing the national jersey and representing Kenya with pride,” he emphasized.
