Senegal replaces Congo Brazzaville in CECAFA tourney ahead of CHAN

The matches will be held at the Karatu Stadium, with participating teams including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Senegal.

According to CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo, Congo Brazzaville withdrew from the tournament due to logistical challenges.

“We are happy to announce that Senegal has accepted to take part in the tournament after Congo Brazzaville communicated that they had encountered some logistical challenges and could not make the trip as earlier planned,” said Gecheo in a statement.

The tournament serves as a preparatory event for the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania next month.

Initially, the competition was scheduled as a knockout format, where the winners of the two semi-final matches would advance to a final, while the losers battled for third place.

However, organizers have since revised the format to a round-robin structure, where each team will play three matches.

The team with the highest points at the end of the tournament will be declared the winner.

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars, currently in camp at Kasarani Stadium, are intensifying preparations for the regional tournament.

Head coach Benni McCarthy and his technical bench are expected to fine-tune tactics and assess the squad before traveling to Tanzania in the coming days.

The tournament offers Kenya a crucial opportunity to test its squad ahead of CHAN 2024, as the team aims to sharpen its competitive edge against strong regional opponents.
