Senelwa reveals Vihiga Queens travel itinerary for Champions League fiesta
Vihiga Queens will travel to Cairo, Egypt on
Wednesday, November 3, ahead of head of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions
League scheduled for November 5-19.
Club Chief Executive Officer Mike Senelwa said in
accordance with the competition regulations, all the participating teams are
required to arrive in the North African country at least by Wednesday.
“We have set Wednesday as our travelling date.
Everything is in place, including travelling documents for all our layers and officials.
We will jet out at 7:00am EAT aboard Egyptian Airline for our express flight,
set to land at the Cairo International Airport at 11:00am.
“Upon arrival, we will be booked at Haras El
Hodod hotel in Alexandria, approximately 219 km from the capital city Cairo. CAF
has allocated for us Haras El Hodod field for our training sessions and I’m hopeful
everything will go on as planned.”
On Saturday
October 30 at the M-pesa Foundation Academy in Thika, they settled on a 5-5 draw
against the under 15, boys side, Flames Sportive.
Mureen Ater was the star of the match, as she
grabbed a brace while Topister Situma, Terry Engesha and Violet Wanyonyi scored
one each.
That was the second friendly match since entering
camp on Sunday, October 24 at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE)
in Kasarani, having thrashed Zetech Sparks 6-0 last Thursday at Camp Toyoyo.
Vihiga Queens edged Commercial Bank of Ethiopia
(CBE) 2-1 in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers’ final at Moi
International Sports Centre, Kasarani to qualify for the Egypt party.
Queens will start their quest for continental
glory with a clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on November 6 at the 30 June
Stadium before meeting Morocco's Asfar November 9 at the Military Academy
Stadium.
They will wrap up their Pool B fixture against
Nigeria heavyweights River Angels three days later at 30 June Stadium.
“The spirit is high in the entire team, both
coaches (Charles Okere and Boniface NyamuNyanuh) are working hand in hand to
ensure the ladies are physically and mentally prepared for the competition. I’m
sure we will star, as we are targeting semifinal spot.
“We know little about our opponents but we will
tackle each team with the seriousness they deserve. We will not underrate any
team,” noted Senelwa.
Group A comprises host Wadi Degla (Egypt), AS
Mande (Mali), Malabo Queens (Equatorial Guinea), and Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana.
