Sepetuka Sevens hosts Homeboyz out to tighten defence

Menengai Cream Homeboyz head coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga has said they will work on their defence especially off-set pieces as they host the second round of the National Sevens Circuit in Eldoret this weekend.

The Deejays are seeded first in Pool A of the Sepetuka Sevens alongside Menengai Oilers, Mean Machine and Masinde Muliro University and the former Shujaa player has highlighted the need to close down defensive gaps.

“Technically we need to work on our defence off breakdowns and make sure our defence is good, because if anything our attack is always at a very good point,” Murunga told Citizen Digital ahead of the Sepetuka Sevens.

Homeboyz beat Mwamba 19-12 to win the Top Fry Prinsloo Sevens, the opening round of the National Sevens Circuit at the Nakuru Athletic Club last weekend.

“We played very well in Nakuru and won, so come Sepetuka we will still want to get to the top and win just to make sure that we’re able to get more points.”

Being the host, the Prinsloo champions plan to put one team in the second division and then get the best team to compete in the top level so as to get a chance to win Sepetuka Sevens on home ground.

Homeboyz lead the National Sevens Circuit log with 22 points after the opening round and Murunga already feels they can go all the way and win the overall circuit title.

“Our target is to win the entire circuit and off course that means we have to perform very well in all our rounds.”

Murunga pleaded with the home fans to come out in large numbers to support their home team play during the sevens.

“Most of our fans know we have a very good team and their expectations are very high, so we won’t let them down, we will make sure we’re able to play our best to make sure that we’re able to win most of the tournaments and the entire circuit.”

After the Sepetuka Sevens the National Circuit will take a two weeks break before resuming in Nairobi with the Kabeberi Sevens in Nairobi set for 18/19 August.
