Shabana defender Evans Obutu dies moments after surgery

National Super League (NSL) giants Shabana FC have suffered a major setback following the demise of Evans Obutu, one of their defenders on Monday evening.

Obutu died shortly after going under the knife, as confirmed by club’s Team Manager Elijah Sani.

According to Sani, Obutu who was a permanent feature for the team last season succumbed shortly after coming out of the operation room.

“The Shabana family is saddened to announce the death of one of our players Evans Obutu. The late Obutu succumbed today evening after an operation.

“We urge calmness to the rest of our playing unit and players as we try to come to terms with the loss of our good defender,” said Sani.

His body is now preserved at Nyangena Hospital Mortuary.
