Shabana FC grabbed a dramatic late winner to edge
Mathare United 1-0 in Wednesday's FKF Premier League clash at Nyayo Stadium.
In the late afternoon encounter, Shabana, who
started the day in third on 37 points, needed patience against a stubborn
Mathare United side, sitting 11th on 26 points.
The visitors pushed hard for an opener but found the
home defence tough to break down.
The deadlock held until deep into stoppage time when
George Onyango struck in the 90+8th minute to seal all three points for
Shabana.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Shabana
camp and handed them a crucial boost in their pursuit of the leaders.
The victory lifts Shabana to 40 points, putting them
level with second-placed AFC Leopards who face KCB on Thursday and narrowing
the gap on table-toppers Gor Mahia, who hold a slim lead with 46 points after
21 games.
Shabana's late heroics tighten the race at the top,
with the chasing pack now breathing down Gor Mahia's neck ahead of Thursday's
fixtures.
Holders Police FC, who are seventh on 31 points, visit
Vapor Grounds in Ngong Road to face basement side Sofapaka, while APS Bomet will
be seeking victory to move further from the relegation zone when they host Kariobangi
Sharks at Green Stadium Awendo.
