Shabana still fighting for life in Division One

As football enthusiasts from the Gusii region continue to reflect on failed attempts to restore the sport’s glory that was, Shabana FC is keen to leap back into the National Super League (NSL).

After Shabana faded off out of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), the Gusii region which has Kisii and Nyamira counties has grown cold football world, with only neighboring Isibania FC of Migori providing a football spectacle for the residents.

However, Shabana Team Manager Andrew Kanuli has told Citizen Digital the road to the topflight is well on course, its length and roughness notwithstanding.

“We have been registering good results in Division One thanks to assistance from well-wishers led by Mr. Paul Mayeko who has been monitoring us closely to ensure we keep moving.

“We appeal for support from people of goodwill who would like to see us back to the team we used to be, especially residents of Gusii land,” Kanuli requested.

Financial constraints contributed majorly in their relegation last year, failing to honor a number of matches hence losing ‘easy’ points.

“Everyone knows our potential. We don’t deserve to play in the third tier. Our target to return to the NSL next season then we charge for KPL later.

“Looking at our run in the first round of our competition, we are number five with a match at hand. If we sustain the momentum we will bounce back,” stated the TM.

Shabana was started in 1980 by a Kisii based businessman Dogo Khan, seeing tremendous growth as a community club before gradual fall that reached the peak in the 2016 season, when they were axed from NSL to Division One.
