Sharks shift focus to Gor after Arta rout

Kariobangi Sharks have shifted attention to Saturday’s Super Cup clash against Gor Mahia FC after making a winning start to their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Sharks defeated Arta Solar 6-1 in the first leg of their preliminary round clash in Kasarani and face a familiar yet much stronger opposition as they begin their domestic season.

Sharks will be featuring for the first time ever in the Cup that serves as the KPL curtain raiser having won last season’s Shield trophy while Gor have played in each of the last eight.

Holders Gor begin their own continental tour on Wednesday against Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets and will have just two days for recovery before battling the Sharks.

“We respect Gor but the most important thing is for the players to showcase what they can do because it has reached a point in which we should show our prowess against strong competitors,” Sharks head coach William Muluya said.

Sharks dumped out Gor in the GOtv Shield quarter finals after defeating them 4-2 in post match penalties after a 0-0 stalemate in the regulation time en route to clinching the Shield.

After Saturday’s showdown, Sharks will head to Djibouti for the second leg of their match against Arta with a match against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko looming large in the first round of the African premier competition so long as they do not falter in Djibouti.

Shortly after arriving from the Horn of Africa, Sharks will thereafter open the 2018/19 KPL season with a mouthwatering clash against AFC Leopards Saturday, December 8.
