Shimo La Tewa purring as Coast School Games begin

Coast region Secondary School Term 1 games hosts Shimo La Tewa have fired a warning salvo to their opponents ahead of the much awaited kick off tomorrow.

Shimo La Tewa Secondary Principal Mutiso Ambinda is confident that his charges will do well in all disciplines as they chase for a ticket to the nationals which will also be held in Mombasa County.

“We are ready to welcome and participate in this year’s games. As hosts we are well prepared, ready to qualify for the nationals,” said Ambinda.

Shimo who are the region’s hockey defending champions will be challenging for honours in all the disciplines – hockey, basketball, handball, rugby 7s and 15s — as well as athletics.

On his part, Coast Secondary School Sports Association Secretary Omar Munga said that all the participating teams are expected to arrive in Mombasa this evening and hold some light work-outs ahead of tomorrow’s kick off.

According to Munga, the boys’ schools will reside at Shimo La Tewa while the girls will be at Mama Ngina Girls.

As part of the preparations, referees were on Wednesday taken through a one day clinic as officials raced to ensure that everything is in place before the competitions begin.

Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo La Tewa Secondary School will host the three day games with the nationals set for April.
