Shooting Federation flags off Bisley-bound Fullbore team

Kenya Sports Shooting Federation on Monday flagged off a team of Fullbore shooters to the 153^rd edition of the Imperial meeting set to run from the 28^th of June to the 26^th of July in Bisley, United Kingdom.

This comes a week after the Federation successfully held an International Practical Shooting Confederation level three Championships in Samburu County, where they played host to 11 countries.

The Federation will be benchmarking from this competition as it aims to host more international events, this time in the Fullbore category. Speaking at the event, Kenya Sports Shooting Federation President, Shoaib Vayani, expressed optimism that the team chosen will do their best.

“This will be a good start for the team after the very long break due to Covid-19. The team has been training in Laikipia and we have chosen a strong team of twenty who we know are well prepared and raring to go and represent Kenya well. We are also going to be keen on taking notes from this event and we believe the experience will come in handy when we host a Kenya Open Championship in fullbore” Added Shoaib.

The team of twenty led by Captain Sanford Otundo has been in a three-week residential camp in preparation for the 153^rd edition of the Imperial meeting. After missing out on the event for close to three years now, the team is in high spirits and excited to represent the country at the month-long long-range shooting championships.

The captain emphasized that they are focused on making better their performance in South Africa last year where they finished second.

“It was a challenge during covidd19 but once we resumed we started in high gear and went out to South Africa where we came in second, which was a good score. We are now going for the Imperial meeting, which is a tough one but I know my team will score well.” Said Otundo

Kenya and South Africa will be the sole representatives of Africa during the annual championships where other countries outside the Continent like Canada, the U.S, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand are expected to participate.

The team comprising of shooters from the Kenya Police Service, Kenya Defense Forces, and Chalbi Shooting Club is set to leave the country tomorrow 28^th of June for the Championships.
