Siaya county secretary, Joseph Ogutu has revealed that the county will the next ten months inaugurate its modern stadium that is currently under construction.
Speaking at the County Stadium while receiving some of the
construction materials, Mr Ogutu said they expect to have received all the
roofing materials by mid-October this year to facilitate the progress of the
construction works.
The County Secretary who was flanked by Siaya County Chief of Staff Colonel Rtd. Cyrus Oguna and the County Executive Committee member for governance and administration Mr. Agunda Ochanda admitted that the completion of the Ksh495 million Stadium has taken long overdue.
He stated, however, that the delays in the completion of the
project were occasioned by delays from the manufacturers who were supposed to
fabricate the roofing materials.
“We project everything else will have been done and the stadium should be in use between March and June next year,” said Ogutu.
Ogutu stated that the stadium which is going to be a
multipurpose facility will host so many activities upon completion, adding that
it will open up the space for sports and cultural activities among other social
and investment events.
He said they want the football pitch to have enough space as recommended by FIFA and other international best practices to attract international competitions and events.
The county officials further note that they want the stadium to be of the standard of international standards such as Wembley, Old Trafford or Emirates and will house a modern VIP lounge, dressing rooms, media centre and a police post.
