AFC Leopards striker Ronald Sichenje is full
of expectations at his new home as they eye their first league title in two
decades.
Due to a FIFA ban Leopards cannot sign for two consecutive
transfer windows but youthful Sichenje believes the current unit is up to the
task.
“We are hoping for victory this season
(winning the league title) because we are preparing very well and so we are
aiming for the title rather than just being participants,” Sichenje said in an
exclusive interview.
Ronald, who is Collins Sichenje’s elder
brother, has been promoted from the academy team ‘Ingwe Cabs’ and is already
proving to be a revelation after scoring a goal against Murang’a Seals over the
weekend in the 3-1 friendly match win.
“I have been playing for the youth team last
season and so because my dream was to play for Leopards I saw no need to go
elsewhere but come and join the senior team to help win the title and shape my
dreams,” said Sichenje.
Just like his younger brother who secured a
move to Sweden from Leopards, Ronald is keen to play attract suitors from
abroad.
“For this season I want to play, help the team
to my level best and then eventually come next summer I leave to go and play
outside the country. That is the aim.
“The mood is very high in the camp and we are
just singing about the title because we are preparing very well mentally,
physically and our coaches are doing an excellent job in readiness for the new
season. I’m very comfortable in any position in front, be it offensive left,
right or central striker,” Sichenje stated.
Leopards have lined up more friendly matches
ahead of the new season, whose start date is still a subject of discussion.
The outgoing FKF Transition Committee had set September
24 as the start date but the returning FKF summit has said the new season can
only start next month.
