Sigh of relief as Nzoia escapes relegation axe

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Salim Babu is now at ease after surviving relation axe, with a match to go in the Kenyan Premier League 2021/22 season.

Before yesterday’s 1-1 draw against record champions Gor Mahia, Nzoia were in panic mode and Babu conceded they had to give their all to avoid a defeat which would have complicated their survival chances.

Nzoia, who were battling relegation alongside Wazito FC, needed a point to keep their survival hopes alive.

The Millers moved to 31 point 3 above Wazito FC who sit 16th on the table but with an inferior goal difference of -20 against Nzoia’s -8.

This means even if Nzoia were to lose their final match against AFC Leopards, Wazito will need a miracle to win their last game with at least 12 goals to nil.

Head coach Salim Babu expressed his joy hoping to built on the result when they host AFC Leopards over the weekend in their last League assignment this term.

"As our norm we are preparing well, we don’t want to leave anything to chance. My philosophy as I have always said Football is a game of instructions and my boys have always played just how I want.

We bagged maximum points against KCB, a draw against Gor and this is the catalyst to go all out against AFC Leopards," Babu told Citizen Digital.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia was still in contention for the title, having a game in hand against FC Talanta and the verdict in their abandoned clash against Vihiga Bullets yet to be made but the draw dashed their hopes.

Gor Mahia are eight points behind the two joint leaders Tusker and Homeboyz who are tied on 60 points.
