Slumping Shujaa face Australia in Challenge quarters

The Kenya Sevens team Shujaa will face Australia on Sunday at 19:52 hrs (EAT) in the Challenge Trophy quarter finals at the BC place stadium after losing all it’s Pool B matches in Vancouver.

Coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga’s charges lost 36-12 in their opener match against Fiji, 35-12 against Las Vegas semi finalists Samao and 36-21 against hosts Canada.

Connor Braid scored a hat-trick converting all his three tries to help the host score six tries with Shujaa’s Cyprian Kuto scoring a brace as they scored three tries converting all.

Canada started with a intelligent play with Harry Jones finding space after he was supported by Matt Mullins, who got the unconverted try.

Jones was the provider again as Kenya lost the ball in midfield, passing the ball forward with his boot, leaving Connor Braid for the score which he also converted for a 12-0 lead.

Mullins and Adam Zaruba worked together to help Canada steal the ball at the breakdown, leaving Braid free again on the right for Canada’s third try which he converted.

But some seconds later Cyprian Kuto was found on the inside after some nice build-up to score a try with Winger Daniel Taabu converting it.

It was Kuto again, after he completed the break down in the right bringing Kenya back in the game Taabu once again converting to bring the match 14-19.

Braid the hat-trick hero evaded the covering tackles to dive over beneath the posts giving Canada a breathing room once again.

Admir Cejvanovic was held up by Johnstone Olindi but he had no problem on the grounding to make it 31-14.

Phil Berna scored Canada’s sixth try of the match to make it 36-14.

Daniel Taabu had the final word, literally side stepping past Pat Kay for the Kenyan try, Johnstone Olindi converting it to finish the match 21-36.
