The club first clinched the Division One title in the 2023–2024 season, but at the time, the team was categorized under the umbrella of Ulinzi Basketball Club.
The following season, Snipers returned as an independent, self-sponsored outfit, determined to prove that their success was not accidental, and they did just that by defending their title.
Head Coach William Ochieng’, a former captain of Ulinzi Warriors, says the achievement reflects resilience and identity.
“Winning the first title was special, but we wanted to show that Snipers could stand on its own,” Ochieng said. “Last season we competed independently, funded ourselves, and still came out as champions. That says a lot about the character of this group.”
Ochieng’ brings with him years of top-level experience from his time at Ulinzi, where discipline and structure shaped his playing career. He believes those same values have driven Snipers’ rapid rise.
“We don’t have the biggest budget or the biggest names, but we work,” he added. “These players train with purpose, they understand systems, and they believe in what we’re building.”
The promotion now pushes Snipers into the Premier League, where they will face some of the country’s most established and well-resourced teams. Ochieng acknowledges the step up but insists his side is embracing the challenge.
“Premier League basketball is another level, and we respect that,” he said. “But we’re not here just to add numbers. We are ready to compete.”
The team is expected to unveil its Premier League roster in the coming days, combining returning talent with new additions as they aim to solidify their status at the top level.
Snipers’ management has also credited fans for their loyalty throughout the transition from an affiliate team to a fully independent club.
“The support has been incredible,” Ochieng’ said. “Our fans stayed with us during a period of uncertainty and celebrated with us as history was made. We are grateful.”
With a historic back-to-back championship secured and a Premier League debut on the horizon, Snipers Basketball enters the new season determined to write a fresh chapter in Kenyan basketball.
