Sofapaka have settled on Bandaris coach Odhiambo- Kalekwa

A day after firing John Baraza, FKF Premier League side Sofapaka FC are set to unveil Ken Odhiambo as their new coach.

Confirming the development, Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa  said Odhiambo will immediately take charge of Batoto ba Mungu after signing a four year contract.

“Yes he is here with us and will assume duties immediately,” confirmed Kalekwa.

Baraza, considered a Sofapaka legend, has served the club in various capacities as player, assistant coach, and later head coach. However, his love story with the outfit seems to have ended after he was shown the door Tuesday through a statement on club’s portal which announced his assistant Mike Muiruri as a caretaker manager.

“We have asked coach Baraza to step aside as we plan to take him for further studies either in Norway or Germany. For now Mururi is in charge of the team and we will announce the new head coach anytime from tomorrow (today),” read the statement in part.

However, Odhiambo, who is also Harambee Stars assistant coach, in an earlier interview, refuted links with the Nairobi based side, maintaining that his  focus is on Bandari’s weekend match.

“It is not officially confirmed anywhere so I am still at Bandari and I treat it as rumours,” he stated in an interview with Citizen Digital on Wednesday.

Ken had just rejoined Bandari earlier this year to replace Bernard Mwalala, two years after leaving the Mombasa based side to further his studies in Sudan.

Sofapaka are scheduled to host Kariobangi Sharks at Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Taita Taveta county in their next assignment.
