Sofapaka no-show for Ulinzi clash after court injunction
Sofapaka FC were a no-show for Saturday’s FKF Premier
League clash against Ulinzi Stars after they obtained an injunction stopping
the rescheduled match.
Ulinzi, who are currently playing their home matches
in Kericho, were at the Green Stadium for the match before returning to their
Nakuru base after being informed the clash was off.
Sofapaka sought and were granted orders on Friday by
the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) stopping the match from being played.
The match had been due in January when it was called
off over failure by Ulinzi to provide a fully equipped ambulance by the
pitch-side at the ASK Showgrounds in Nakuru.
The FKF Caretaker Committee earlier this month ruled
the match would be rescheduled following a ‘review of the match officials'
reports of the abandoned match’.
In their response to the committee, Sofapaka sought to
be reimbursed costs incurred when they honoured the abandoned match and
indicated they would take the matter to court.
“Pending the hearing and determination of this
Application interpartes before this Honourable Tribunal, an order be and is
hereby issued staying the decision of the Respondent delivered Vide its letter
of the 10th March 2022;
“That the Application and the Memorandum of Appeal be
served upon the Respondents and the Interested Party by close of business
today, 25th March 2022;” the court order said in part.
The FKF Caretaker Committee did not dispatch match
officials for the match but Ulinzi maintained they received no prior communication
to suggest it would not be played.
Ulinzi had another match cancelled on March 9 against
AFC Leopards in Kericho after the visitors protested that the ambulance
provided lacked a defibrillator.
