Kenyan defender Sosthenes Khakali Idah has embarked on a new football adventure, signing a six-month deal with Clube Ferroviário de Lichinga in Mozambique after parting ways with Nairobi City Stars at the end of last season.

The 30-year-old, who has built a solid career across Kenya and Tanzania, is embracing this fresh challenge in Moçambola, Mozambique’s top-flight league. Founded on October 13, 1924, Clube Ferroviário de Lichinga is based in the heart of Niassa Province, and Idah is eager to make his mark.

“It’s every footballer’s dream to play in a competitive league that gives them exposure. This is a great opportunity for me, even though the language barrier is real—Portuguese is all they speak! But the environment is good, even if the weather is a bit challenging,” said Idah.

Idah bade farewell to Simba wa Nairobi in July 2024, having featured 15 times for the KPL side. The transition hasn’t been easy, especially being away from family.

“Leaving Nairobi City Stars was tough, and I had to take time to think about my future. It meant being away from my wife and kids, but football is about taking chances. Now, I have six months to prove myself and hopefully earn an extension. It’s all in my hands.”

Idah is no stranger to Kenyan football, having turned out for top clubs like Bandari (2013, 2019), KCB (2014), Bidco United (2016), Thika United (2017), and Kakamega Homeboyz (2018). He also made his mark in Tanzania, featuring for Coastal Union and Tanzania Polisi F.C., before returning to Kenya and joining Nairobi City Stars in 2023.

Internationally, he was part of the Kenya U23 squad and made the provisional list for the senior national team on several occasions.

Now, with a new chapter unfolding in Mozambique, he’ll be aiming to make a mark in his new assignment.
