South Coast Pirates RFC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season with the acquisition of three promising Ugandan players as the club aims for promotion to the Kenya Cup.

The club, which was relegated at the end of last season, is rebuilding with renewed focus and fresh talent under newly appointed head coach Tony Khadambi.

Leading the new signings is Alphonce Otieno, a powerful lock who arrives from Walukuba Barbarians. Known for his physicality and line-out presence, Otieno is expected to add much-needed stability to the Pirates’ forward pack.

In the backs, the club has secured 20-year-old fly-half Bryan Titus Wanyangu from Elgon Wolves.

A former standout at Friends School Kamusinga, Wanyangu brings creativity, kicking ability, and youthful energy to the team’s playmaking department.

Rounding off the trio is 25-year-old outside back Robin Phillip Odrua, formerly of Mongers Rugby Club.

With his ability to feature both on the wing and at fullback, Odrua injects pace and versatility into the Pirates’ backline, qualities the team has been keen to reinforce ahead of the new campaign.

The three Ugandan players join Khadambi’s side as the club targets a swift return to the top tier.

Khadambi, who took over as head coach in mid-September, will oversee his first competitive match this weekend as the Pirates travel to Kakamega for a tough opening fixture against Western Bulls.

Having endured relegation after just one season in the Kenya Cup, the Pirates are determined to mount a strong comeback.
