Zetech Sparks head coach Maurice Obilo is elated by his girls’
double victory over the weekend in a league match staged at the Nyayo
Gymnasium, Nairobi despite not being able to have adequate training last week.
Sparks spanked varsity rivals USIU Flames 65-60 on Saturday
before hammering Africa Nazarene University (ANU Panthers) 57-43 on Sunday to
maintain their good run in the national women’s basketball premier league.
“As much as we did
not have enough training time, we managed to play very well, I congratulate the
girls for coming out and showing what they are made of. We had less players for
the two games but I am happy we won,” Obilo said.
At the same time, the soft-spoken tactician is impressed
with the team’s fitness as they have all the time to concentrate on league
matches after the conclusion of varsity games.
“The girls are season fit, they are ready for the games,
they have been up and down not being able to focus on the league but now we are
done with university games till September and I believe we will now have time
to focus on the league games moving forward,” Obilo added.
In their Sunday game against ANU Panthers, Zetech started
off well winning the first quarter 14-10 before narrowly losing the second
quarter 08-07 to go to halftime with a 21-18 lead.
They claimed the third quarter 13-09 before Zetech came out
strongly in the last quarter to win 27-12 as the game ended 57-43 at the final
buzzer.
The students now have 28 points from 15 games, winning 13
and losing only two.
