Sports Fund CEO Nur Ibrahim has taken a swipe at sports federations over what he called a serious ‘lack of coordination and compliance’.
Speaking in Nairobi at the media launch of the ABSA Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour, Nur highlighted the persistent coordination challenges between his office and several federations.
He cited clashing master plan submissions that cause confusion and delays, but heaped praise on Athletics Kenya (AK), crediting them for their top-notch conduct.
“Sometimes I get challenges with other federations when it comes to simple things like master plan submissions. But I laud Athletics Kenya for the good job they’ve done. I give them grade A,” said Ibrahim.
On infrastructure, Nur called for an end to politically driven stadium projects, and instead urged the involvement of technical experts to avoid white elephant facilities that serve no one.
“We know that stadiums are now being built across all levels in the country, but it would be important to consult experts so that the stadia being built benefits everyone. If we don’t involve experts, we end up with white elephants facilities that don’t serve the people they’re built for,” he noted.
His candid remarks have hit home with many stakeholders fed up with substandard projects and federation mismanagement that continue to plague Kenyan sports.
