SS Assad win inspires Naivas to go for the cherry
Naivas head coach Jeff
Maina has termed their win against SS Assad as vital in their quest to finish
top of the league in their maiden season in the National Super League.
The shoppers defeated
the coastal side 4-0; a win Maina attributed to the 'heavy tactical changes' in
the second half having only scored one goal in the first stanza.
"The win is a good
bonus to us because we lost our last match and we want to approach each one at
a time as we remain focused on our target (at the end of the league),"
said a delighted Maina.
He added, "We made
some changes in our midfield which left our opponents confused and that is how
the win came about."
Naivas are sixth in the
standings with 32 points and will travel to Migori this week to face wounded
Shabana who lost 2-1 to Coastal Heroes in Mombasa.
"We are going back
to Migori where we lost but our approach will never be the same again, we will
target maximum points."
Elsewhere APS Bomet
cemented their top position after a narrow 1-0 win away in Kisumu against
Kisumu Allstars.
Bomet coach Charles
Odera urged his striker to sharpen their skills after missing a lot of chances
in the duel.
"We need to work on
our finishing because we have to win by big margins if we are to stay in the
promotion battle."
Four points
differentiate them with second-placed Fortune Sacco who lost their match by the
same margin against Vihiga United.
The second tier league
will continue on Wednesday with 10 matches lined up countrywide.
