St Cyprian start preps for National Games

St Cyprian Boys Under-16 football team have dived in back to training with eyes on winning the 2019 National title after reaching that level for the first time in their history this year.

Head coach Joel Kinoti Mungania stressed that embarking on their training this early will help them achieve the level of quality and consistency needed to go all the way having exited in the preliminaries at this year’s event in Eldoret.

“Our target is to win the Regional Games once again and qualify for the Nationals with a goal of reaching the semi-finals which will then give us morale to win the tourney.

“Improving our training routine plus motivation from me and my assistant coach Joseph Njeru will help us win next year’s edition according to our programme,” Mungania told Citizen Digital.

He added that his charges love football and have a great thirst to win every time they step out on the field.

Kinoti added that in the nationals, teams played a higher level of football than they expected losing to Nyanza and Western regions thus losing the chance to qualify for the quarterfinals.

“The lesson we learnt from the competition is that other teams from other regions have special diet for their players unlike us.”

“Our opponents were big in size and played a physical game against our passing game which made it hard for us to play a one touch game play since we were losing the ball a lot to the big boys.” He added.

His other mission is to talk to the school management to support the boys through giving them special diet so as to improve their physical conditioning.
