When Maureen Bosibori Otieno first left the coastal city of Mombasa, she carried little more than a dream, determination, and an invitation from seasoned tactician Maurice 'Obie' Obilo to join Zetech Sparks.

Nairobi was unfamiliar, intimidating even, but Maureen’s focus was clear: she was determined to make it in life—and basketball.

Ten years later, she departs Zetech, having become the team’s longest-serving player. Her journey was one of growth, discipline, and quiet victories.

From a hopeful university recruit to a seasoned backcourt anchor, Maureen consistently delivered points, assists, and defensive plays, including leading Zetech in steals during the AWBL qualifiers—a testament to her defensive instincts and basketball IQ.

More than statistics, her decade at Zetech shaped her as a leader and mentor. She honed resilience, tactical awareness, and a winning mindset, guiding younger teammates while pushing herself to excel in every game.

The victories were sweeter, the defeats sharper, but through it all, Maureen’s commitment never wavered.

Now, she turns a new page with the Stanbic Bank Women's Basketball Team. Speaking about the move, she shared, “I’m excited to join Stanbic and take my skills to the next level.

The team’s values align with mine, and I’m looking forward to contributing and growing with the team.”

She is clear about her goals for this next phase: “I aim to contribute as a scorer and playmaker. This season, I plan to take more shots, bring more energy on both ends of the court, and maintain a winning mindset.

“I want to fit into Stanbic’s system by sticking to our philosophy as a team as well as creating opportunities and taking opportunities that come my way, including taking clutch shots.”

For Maureen Bosibori Otieno, the path from Mombasa to Nairobi, from a hopeful university invitee to a seasoned league veteran, is a story of perseverance, passion, and growth.

Now, with Stanbic Bank, she’s ready to bring her fire, her experience, and her ten years of hard-earned skill to a new team and a new chapter in Kenyan women’s basketball.
