Starlets sink Tanzania to lift Cecafa title

The national women’s football team Harambee Starlets clinched their first ever Cecafa title after defeating hosts Tanzania 2-0 in the final staged in Chamazi, Dar Es Salaamon on Monday.

Jentrix Shikangwa came off the bench to score a brilliant double to secure victory for the Starlets who thus completed a resounding run that saw them win all their matches at the regional competition.

Kenya ended the competition having sunk an incredible 24 goals in just five matches with Shikangwa alone accounting for 10 of those despite often being used as a substitute.

Uganda crested cranes finished the tourney as the second runners up after they thrashed Burundi 2-0.

The win was a sweet revenge for the Kenyan side who lost in the 2016 final to the Twiga Stars in Jinja Uganda.
