Style up, CS Namwamba tells KRU

Ababu Namwamba has issued a stern warning to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to put
its house in order or ship out.
Namwamba expressed
disappointment in the KRU for abandoning players and leaving them to go unpaid despite
having held discussions with the federations earlier this month.
“I spent a
whole half day with these federations. I remember the Kenya Rugby union was
represented at the very highest level at Kasarani and they did not mention a
thing about this issue.
“I was quite
upset they would allow players to go for months without pay and release part of
the team to Dubai without allowances.”
Ababu put
all national federations on notice urging them to prioritize the player’s
welfare and added he would come down hard on officials.
“If any
federation is going to put any Kenyan player in this kind of situation, we will
come down really hard on you. This is a matter of the law, it’s a matter of
humane treatment of other people. I’ve told them I’m really giving them a
chance to clean up, up our game, and do things right.”
On the other
hand, the CS confirmed that the player’s allowances have been paid directly
into their accounts and not through the Union. He defended this move on the
grounds of a trust deficit between them and the union.
The KRU has
been on the spot over the last number of days after Willy Ambaka and Dennis
Ombachi aired their plight due to unpaid allowances for three months.
