Suspension killing Kenya's badminton, says coach Maina

Badminton stakeholders in the country are desperately appealing to the National Olympics Committee of Kenya to fast track their national federation’s elections, to gain legitimacy towards readmission into the World Badminton Federation.
The Kenya Badminton Federation was indefinitely suspended WBA two years ago.
According to coach Peter Maina of MYSA badminton club, the consequences are heavy on them.
“For the past two
years, it has been really hard for us since our players cannot go out for
international tournaments unless we are going under NOC-K umbrealla. We are
pleading with NOC-K to move with speed and get the process to get the elections
done so that we can regain recognition by WBF," said Maina.
Maina however notes that encouraging progress has been made by NOC-K in efforts to reconstitute the federation.
“At least we can see some tremendous steps by NOC-K. They are currently helping in re-writing the constitution which will eventually lead to an election and they have also given us the leeway to organize our local tournaments,” added Maina.
Despite the
suspension, WBF allowed NOC-K to have a badminton team in the 2022 Commonwealth
Games in Birmingham, and another is expected to be in the African games set for
August this year.
