Swimmer Muteti bubbling to put a good show in Japan

Olympian Emily Muteti is confident of posting good results when she represents Kenya at this year’s World Aquatic Championship set to be held in Fukuoka, Japan.

The competition which will run from July 14th to 30th of the same month will involve diving, artistic water swimming, open water, water polo, swimming and high diving.

Kenya has therefore sent twenty swimmers to represent her at the three major championships.

The group was selected after a two-day national trial held last weekend at the Kasarani Aquatic Center, Nairobi.

Following the trials, four foreign-based swimmers including Muteti, Maria Brunlehner, Monyo Maina and Ridwan Abubakar will represent the country at the world’s championship.

“We concluded the trials well and now we have two women and two men to represent our country in the world championship. We now need to continue training for the championship as we look forward to it,” Muteti said.

On her side, Monyo appreciated the competitiveness of the trials. She, however, notes that she never posted good results during the event. She is now looking forward to bouncing back to her best at the championship.

“The competitiveness at the trials pushed me to post some good times though they weren’t my best. I am happy that my hard work put me into the selected team,” Monyo said.

Muteti who made her debut at the delayed 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan will partner with Brunlehner on the women’s team.

On the other side, Monyo who is based in Canada and UK-based Abubakar who both represented Kenya in last year's Commonwealth Games will partner in the men’s team.
