With three days before Uasin Gishu County hosts the third
edition of The Great Chepsaita Cross Country, a member of the local organizing
committee, Kennedy Tanui, says the competition has come of age quickly.
Tanui says this year’s edition is going to be bigger and better,
with more than 10,000 participants already confirmed to grace the event.
“This event has really grown in the last three years. To reach a
gold label is not a joke, and the great impact it has on the community is
amazing, so I believe this year will be more exciting and very competitive,”
said Tanui.
Tanui also confirmed that five members of Team Kenya for next
year's World Cross Country Championship in Florida will compete on Saturday as
part of their preparation for the event.
“Five member of Team Kenya have confirmed their participation in
the event as part of their preparation for next year's world championship and
believe that makes the event kind a a mini world championship,” added Tanui
The event, which is a gold label, will be broadcast on Citizen TV,
and when the under-20 competition begins, that is when they start their
international feed according to the World Athletics standard.
“Everything that will be happening on Saturday has to meet all
the World Athletics standards, which is why we are running up and down day and
night to make sure that everything is perfect,” stated Tanui
