Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh is confident his side will clinch the FKF Women’s Cup this season, after sailing to the quarter-finals with a dominant 5-1 win over Iron Ladies.
Speaking after the emphatic Round of 16 victory, Nyamunyamuh praised his squad’s fighting spirit and declared this could be their year to make history.
“We really fought for the win and at the end of the day we had it, I think this is our season. We want to win the league and write history. I have no injuries in my squad, and to all my players I just want to tell them to be determined and I believe we can clinch the title,” he said.
Diana Cherono led the charge with a brace, while Swaumu Masungo, Noel Amutata, and Ruth Khasoha also got on the score sheet.
Vihiga Queens now gear up for a thrilling quarter-final clash with Eldoret Falcons, who edged Kisii Queens 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Elsewhere, Ulinzi Starlets continued their quest for a fourth straight title with a narrow 1-0 win over Desert Scorpions.
Bungoma Queens impressed at home with a 3-0 victory against Gideon Starlets, with Bracksides Itambo and Catherine Khaemba on target.
They set up a quarter-final tie with Trinity Starlets, who beat Ndarawetta 2-1 in Nakuru.
The final two quarter-final spots will be decided Tuesday at Ruaraka Grounds, Nairobi, where Kenya Police Bullets FC face FC Milima Queens, and Zetech Sparks take on Kayole Starlets in another action-packed doubleheader.
