Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has wished Emmanuel Adebayor well after the Togo international was released from his contract by mutual consent on Saturday.
“It was clear from last season – four months ago – the situation was clear. I am happy because for him and for the club it is important that the problem has been solved. We wish the best to him because our relationship for one year was good. But professionally we need to split.”
Spurs travelled to the Stadium of Light to defeat Sunderland 1-0 in the Premier League, and Pochettino hailed goal scorer Ryan Mason’s ‘fantastic’ effort in the win.
“That was a great goal. It shows how we want to play and our philosophy this season,” said Pochettino.
Harry Kane – the club’s star striker last season – has yet to score this campaign, but his Argentine boss is confident he will regain his form in time.
The win is Tottenham’s first in their five opening games and moves them up to 12th in the standings.
