Tusker FC booked their place in the round of 16 of the FKF Cup with a professional 2-0 victory against Bidco United at Police Sacco Stadium on Friday.
The
Brewers took control of the tie with two well-worked goals and then defended
resolutely to secure a clean sheet and become the first team to advance to the
next stage.
Bless
Bakai opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Eric Kapaito threaded an
intelligent pass between the Bidco defenders, finding Bakai in space. The
Ghanaian forward showed excellent composure to dink the ball over the advancing
goalkeeper and into the net.
Tusker
doubled their lead in the second half when Kapaito again turned provider in the
50th minute. He released Thomas Omolle on the right flank, and Omolle delivered
a first-time cross that Stephen Etyang met with a clinical finish to make it
2-0.
Bidco
pushed for a way back into the contest and came closest in the 71st minute when
Brandon Obiero produced a superb point-blank save to deny what looked like a
certain goal for the Oilers.
The
victory underlines Tusker's growing strength in cup competitions under coach
Julien Mette, who had warned his players ahead of the tie to show a killer
mentality and avoid complacency against an underdog side.
Bakai's opener and Etyang's finish showcased the team's attacking quality, while the defensive solidity ensured they saw out the game without conceding.
Tusker now
await the draw for the round of 16 as they chase silverware and a place in the
CAF Confederation Cup next season.
