Tusker FC assistant captain Thomas Teka Omenda says the Kenya Premier League title is still within reach for the Brewers who are desperate to turnaround their season as the second round begins.

The defender, who was elevated to the vice-captaincy following Michael Kibwage’s move to Gor Mahia, believes their title bid is still on despite blowing hot and cold in the first round which has seen them drop to eighth in the standings on 27 points, nine points adrift of leaders Gor Mahia.

In their opening 18 matches, the Ruaraka-based side won eight matches, drew three and lost seven — the highest number of defeats among the top eight, a record Teka insists they are determined to erase.

“We had tough moments, especially due to individual errors, but we are correcting them gradually. It’s a process and so far we are on the right track,” he said.

He added that the team has held internal meetings to address weaknesses and sharpen their approach going forward.

“We agreed that any team that beat us in the first round will not beat us again. And if we took points from you before, we are coming for maximum points. There is no pressure — just belief and focus.”

Head coach Charles Okere echoed Teka’s sentiments, describing the second leg as a fresh start.

“We had a false start to the season and it affected the players mentally. Conceding cheap goals and missing chances hurt us, but what matters now is how we respond in this final stretch,” Okere noted.

Tusker kicked off the second round with a 2-1 win over KCB and will be aiming for back-to-back victories when they face Posta Rangers, a side that beat them 2-1 in the opening fixture.

They next face 11th placed Posta Rangers on Saturday whom they lost 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
