Tusker FC have relieved head coach Charles Okere of his duties and picked French coach Julien Mette as his replacement. His exit was catalysed by a run of inconsistent results in the FKF Premier League.
For Okere the
pressure upped following Saturday’s 3–1 loss to Mathare United. The result left
the brewers ninth on the league table with 28 points, 15 behind record league
champions and leaders Gor Mahia, as the title race enters a critical phase.
Frenchman Mette
takes over for the remainder of the season. He will be assisted by Anthony
Kimani, who joins from his role as assistant coach with Harambee Stars.
Okere’s association with Tusker spans several years across different roles. He joined the club in 2018 as assistant coach under Robert Matano and was part of the technical team that helped the club secure two league titles. Between 2022 and 2024, he served as second assistant coach while also leading the youth team.
In July 2024,
Okere stepped up as interim head coach before being confirmed in the role
permanently. During his tenure as head coach, he oversaw a transitional period
for the squad but struggled to maintain consistent league form this season.
In his farewell
message, Okere thanked the club’s management, players, technical staff and
supporters for their support during his time at Ruaraka.
He described Tusker as more than a workplace,
noting that the club had become family since his arrival in 2018. He added that
he remains grateful for the experiences and successes achieved and stated that
he will continue to support the club from outside the technical bench.
Tusker now turn
their focus to improving their league standing under the new technical team as
the season progresses.
