Hosts Uganda put themselves in good position to qualify for the semi finals of the Cecafa women tournament when they served Zanzibar a 9-0 humiliating defeat in their second clash of Group A in Jinja.
The handsome victory saw them leap above Burundi to second on goal difference after the team who whipped Zanzibar 10-1 in the opener succumbed to a 4-0 hiding at the hands of pool leaders, Harambee Starlets, who sealed their place in the last four on Tuesday.
It means Thursday’s final group clash between the hosts and Burundi will be a straight shootout to determine who will join the red-hot Starlets in the semis as the Kenyans play Zanzibar.
Four goals from striker Hasifa Nasunna, doubles from Fazilah Ikwaput and US based Laki Otandeka as well as a goal by Christine Nambirige caused the carnage at the Njeru Technical Field in Jinja.
Uganda had the ball in the net as early as the seventh minute but Nassuna’s effort was ruled out for offside.
Zanzibar held strong but finally cracked twice in quick succession as the 40th minute mark approached, first when Salum Fatuma Khatibu handled the ball in the box with the resultant penalty scored by Nassuna to give the Crested Cranes the lead.
Ikwaput notched a second in the 39th giving Zanzibari keeper, Khadija Saleha no chance having come to the side after missing their 4-0 mauling by the Starlets.
It was soon 3-0 as Zanzibar imploded with Nambirigge notching her goal in the 42nd to ease the anxiety amongst the home supporters as the first half drew to a close.
Ikwaput started the second half barrage when she scored the fourth for her brace and Nain the second half gave Uganda their fourth goal before Nassuna bagged the fifth minutes later.
Otandeka then got on the act before Nassuna secured her hat-trick and sealed the rout with her fourth to seal the punishment.
Ethiopia play Rwanda in Pool B on Wednesday afternoon.
