Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei wins 2024 New Delhi Half Marathon

The 10,000m world record holder secured the victory in 59 minutes and 46 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Alex Matata, who came home second in a time of 59 minutes and 50 seconds.
Matata’s compatriot Nicholas Kipkorir rounded off the podium, crossing the finish line in a time of 59 minutes and 57 seconds.
Cheptegei turned on the afterburners in the last 500m to ward off the Kenyans challenge, sprinting to the podium finish with joy and gratitude.
Cheptegei attributed the victory to the courage and self-motivation in learning from challenges.
“It’s another milestone and I want to give God gratitude for enabling me to confront and learn from these new marathon challenges”, he said in a post-race interview.
“I look forward to competing in multiple half marathons before getting into the real 42 kilometers challenge”.
