Ugly divorce? Shabana boss Niverton claims Selebwa made away with teams equipment

National Super League giants Shabana FC are on a hunting mission for a new coach after seasoned tactician Gilbert Selebwa quit the club in a huff citing hefty salary arrears.

The team entered the new season amidst a financial turmoil, and it seems the setback is eating ambition out of the Gusii Stadium based side.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Selebwa said his arrears run back to May this year.

“The club has financial problems, and I have not been paid my salary since May this year. I have been patient with their promises until they became unbearable.

“I have had to live on promises for five months. Looking into the future, there is no indication that the financial problems will come to an end,” Selebwa said.

He added that the club administration’s failure to clear the air on his remuneration has forced him to jump ship.

“For me, it is difficult to continue because I have a family to take care of and also bills to foot. They should now look for someone who can steer the team forward.

“I gave them an option to pay me two months’ salary and forget about the rest, but they do not seem interested in that.”

However, club chairman Jared Niverton has refuted the claims saying Selebwa chose to quit the club after falling out with his players.

“Mr. Selebwa fell out with players, especially in the Ushuru game, that we lost 2-0 at Ruaraka. His conduct during that game annoyed the players and fans at large,” he claimed.

Following the incident, he was served with a warning letter, something that did not sit well with him, thus opting out.

The chairman says Selebwa made away with the team’s training equipment leaving them in limbo.

He also rubbished claims of the club owing him salary arrears saying the club had signed no one during the said time as all players and technical bench contracts became effective at the start of the season.

“He should reveal the contract details for June, July, and August because, according to us, we had not entered any contractual agreement with him.

“I cleared his September salary, which is in line with his contract. His next salary should be at the end of October.

He claims the club owes him arrears worth Sh400, 000, which is a huge lie. He should come out clean on the details of his contract,” charged Niverton.

Niverton said the team will hire a coach that can win the trust of the players and the backroom as they aim to get promoted to the premier league.

“We want to have a coach by the end of next week. He should be someone who can unite the players and the fans.

We need to make the club a family because the fans are important, for they have stood by us regardless of the situation.” He added.

The Glamour Boys sit ninth on the NSL log with 13 points and take on Vihiga United tomorrow at Gusii Stadium.
