Ulinzi edge KCB, Wazito top thriller at Police
Brian Birgen hit a first half winner as Ulinzi Stars
defeated KCB FC 1-0 during Saturday’s FKF Premier League clash at a rain-soaked
Green Stadium in Kericho.
The clash was moved to the venue late Thursday after
the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee declared Nakuru’s ASK
Showgrounds unfit to host top-flight matches.
Ulinzi have been using the facility as its home venue
as construction works to uplift its Afraha Stadium continue.
Victory in Kericho moved the soldiers two places into tenth
on the league standings on 25 points with the result leaving the latest dent on
KCB’s fading title hopes.
After a promising first half of the season in which
they cut themselves out among the title favourites, the bankers have now managed
one win in seven outings to fall four places off the top.
In Saturday’s early kick-off, Kariobangi Sharks
suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home against Nzoia Sugar thanks to Joseph Mwangi’s
winning strike in the second half.
At the Nyayo National Stadium, Kenya Police were on
the losing end of a five-goal thriller with Wazito FC running out 3-2 winners.
Ellie Asieche had put the visitors 1-0 up inside just
nine minutes and Clifton Miheso replied in the 26t minute when he struck from
the penalty spot.
But John Kuol and Amos Ekhalie scored in succession to
ensure Wazito led 3-1 at the break and Charles Ouma scored for the hosts in the
second half to leave it at 3-2.
Elsewhere Nairobi City Stars thumped Mathare United
3-0 after a second half blitz in which Lennox Ogutu, Charles Ouma and Nicholas
Kipkirui scored to lift the hosts to within two points off the top spot.
