Unstoppable Vihiga Queens march on with victory over Wadadia

Vihiga Queens beat Wadadia 2-1 on Saturday at the Mumias Sports Complex as the second round of the FKF Women Premier League kicked off after a two weeks break.

Maureen Achieng opened the scores for the Alex Alumira coached Vihiga in the 36th minute while substitute Terry Engesha scored the match-winner in the 69th minute, after Ruth Chebungei had hauled Wadadia level in the 58th minute via a penalty after she was brought down by Enez Mango in the 12-yard box.

Visitors Wadadia will however have themselves to blame after missing three clear-cut chances, two in the first half and another in the second half.

In the 44th minute Chebungei made a penetrating run to deliver a fine cross to Marion Aniona who shot wide while Catherine Khaemba shot was well cleared by Diana Tembesi.

The game, lively in either side of the half, saw numerous chances created with Rebecca Misango firing off target with the goal at her mercy.

The win cements Vihiga’s lead in the KWPL standings on 22 points from eight matches. Wadadia are third on 13points.

The league continues Sunday with three matches lined up. Mathare United will face Kayole Starlets at the Stima Members Club, Nakuru Queens will tackle Oserian Ladies FC at the Nakuru Show Ground as SEP Ladies entertain Kisumu All Starlets FC at K’ Otieno Grounds in Oyugis.
