Unyielding Gachaga targets Valencia Half-Marathon crown

Kenya’s Morris Munene Gachaga targets to run 59:30 in the upcoming Valencia Half-Marathon on Sunday.

In an interview with Citizen Digital after participating in the FNB Durban 10km City Surf Run on Sunday, Munene said that his target is to surpass his personal best 0f 60:10 which he ran in the Paris Half-Marathon earlier this year.

“I’m going back to Spain where I won the Madrid Half-Marathon last year and my target is to run a new personal best of 59:30,” he said.

The Bristol Half-Marathon record holder who will be participating in the Valencia Half- Marathon for the first time said that he is excited ahead of the challenge as he will be competing in an IAAF recognized event.

“I’m looking forward to giving my best since it’s a very big race,”Gachaga said.

And ahead of the race, Munene says he’s preparing well enough to conquer the odds and become victorious.

The 22year-old is expected to jet back to the country on Tuesday and head straight to his training camp at the Kigali Teachers College in Embu County, to prepare for the upcoming edition of Embu Red Cross mini marathon set for this weekend. Munene won the race last year and will be aiming to defend his title.

Participating in the Embu race should give him the steam ahead of the major test that awaits him in Valencia.
