UON Dynamites sink JKUAT to claim derby bragging rights
UON Dynamites edged JKUAT LYNX 42-38 at the University of
Nairobi grounds as they claimed varsity derby bragging rights on Sunday.
Victory ensured Dynamites completed back to back wins for the
weekend having crushed Kisumu Lady Bucks 64-40 on Saturday at the same venue.
Those results marked their fifth and sixth victories from their
opening seven matches while for LYNX it was their sixth loss in eight matches.
Liz Okumu, Gaceri Shalon and Vanessa Lynn dropped 24 points as
the Dynamites cruised to victory with Macharia Jane, Collette Joy and Makori
Priscilla shining for the losing side.
Dynamites started off well winning 13-12 in the first quarter
before winning the second 13-06 to establishing a 26-18 lead at the break.
JKUAT responded with a 13-03 success in the penultimate
quarter but they could not hold that momentum into the final frame which they
lost 07-13.
Dynamites head coach Juma Kent was impressed with the
performance of his team.
"I am happy for the win, the girls played well
especially fourth quarter. Our fitness level are still low but I am going to
work on it as we prepare for our next assignment come next weekend," Kent
said.
Elsewhere after a long break from league action, Zetech
Sparks came back with a strong statement crushing KU ORYX 83-25 in another
university derby played at the same venue.
Zetech won 25-08 in the opening quarter before pulling away
with a 16-06 victory in the second as they took the first half 41-13.
Another impressive offensive display from Zetech gave them a
22-07 win in the third quarter.
The Sparks showed no signs of slowing down in the last
quarter as they won 20-04 to end the game with 58-point.
Zetech now have 15 points out of the eight games they have
played, winning seven and losing one while KU have eight points from seven
games they have played so far winning one and losing six.
Meanwhile ANU Panthers hammered Kisumu Lady Bucks 56-31 in
