Vihiga Queens hail 'team unity' after wrapping up fourth league title
Unity and hard work have been the key factors in Vihiga
Queens’ Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League (FKFWPL) title triumph, team
captain Enaz Mango has said.
Queens won the title on Saturday following their 3-1 victory
over varsity side Zetech Sparks as they wrapped up a fourth league crown at
Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County.
“The team work was exceptional and everyone delivered on
their part. We took on all challenges as a team and with support from the County
Government we prevailed,” Mango told Citizen Digital.
The club won its first league title the same year they were
promoted to the KWPL during the 2016/17 season. They then won it again for two
seasons in a row between 2017/18 and 2018/19.
The next season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic
with Thika Queens taking the title last year and relinquishing it to Vihiga
this campaign.
Head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said the ‘commitment and
passion’ from his players made his task easy.
“The players have been showing up at the training grounds
daily. Training was their motto to win the league. Their commitment and passion
has been of great impact too,” Nyamunyamu said
Nyamunyamu took the mandate from Alex Alumirah (currently
Harambee Starlets head coach) from 22nd August 2021 after he (Alumirah) decided
to seek greener pastures in the neighbouring country, Tanzania.
